Barack Obama just got real about the beauty pressures black women face every day

When Time magazine sat down with President Obama and ballerina Misty Copeland, the president didn’t shy away from talking about how our culture has affected black women and the beauty standards they currently face. He even brought up Beyoncé.

What the term POC is supposed to do: Replace the word minority, which can have negative connotations, and vaguely describe any group of people who aren’t white

What the term POC is NOT supposed to do:

  1.  Replace the word black when you’re talking SPECIFICALLY about black people
  2. Allow non black POC to make their struggles and black struggles interchangeable
  3. Allow non black POC to be anti black under the guise of “solidarity”

This has been a public service announcement.

Every time everyone’s like, “poor black people.” There are like one and a half people and a three-legged dog a hundred miles in the background waving and quietly suggesting, “hey, Native Americans exist.” Not diminishing black issues, but at least black issues are visible.

Getting a lot of negative commentary on this one. Not reading it all yet, but I’ll rephrase(and probably make it worse) and put it this way: Black issues are like a large man in a reflective vest walking in the middle of the road. Native issues are like a small child hiding in a bush. Maybe it’s just who I follow, but it’s nothing to see dozens of reblogs on black lives matter(not a problem), but I rarely see anything about Natives EVER. there’s just not as much attention, no news coverage etc. It seems like, for the most part, they stay forgotten. They’re the, “oh yeah, them, too” of activism. Or at least the activism I see. Shit on me for this, but I can’t be the only one with these thoughts. If I open up the discussion by saying what others might be scared to, scared they’ll get the kind of backlash I’m seeing, then good. Yell at me so others can learn, too.

@blackndnsunited it got worse lmao

what a garbage post

again I ask: how is NDN’s lack of visibility black peoples fault

follow up: hypervisibility is not a privilege

OP seriously fucked up. Now you got a popular Black NDN on your ass. Good luck trying to survive in your utopia that is anti-blackness.

How the fuck is OP being anti black? She is simply saying that Native American issues don’t get enough coverage as black issues WHICH IS TRUE. Especially since Native Americans are still going though systematic genocide.

Native American issues don’t get as much coverage as Black issues because of the different roles racism has created for the two peoples.

Native Americans are supposed to be invisible, disappeared, and nonexistent. Mixed Native people who are mixed with any other race, including Black, are considered “not really Native” - any other heritage is supposed to erase Native blood. This is because Native people not existing is the goal of settler colonialism.

Black people are hypervisible. Someone being Black is the most distinctive feature about them in a racist society. “One drop” of Black heritage makes a person considered Black. This rule was created under slavery, because slaveholders in a slave-based economy want to classify as many people as slaves as possible. Black people are portrayed as criminals, thugs, etc. all over the media - the result of the coverage of Black Lives Matter in the mainstream media has too often been that white people now think there’s a “war on cops” and “looting and riots” everywhere, and more unfair targeting of Black people.

Hypervisibility and invisibility are two sides of a racist coin. Hypervisibility is not a privilege.

Raising awareness about Native issues is great, but saying “it’s unfair that Black people get attention when we don’t” is not the answer. White people are represented positively much, much more than either Black or Native people. That is the problem. Black people are not the problem. And if we fight each other instead of standing together, only white supremacy will benefit from it.

i need every ndn to read this and read it again.

So last week, for the humble price of $17, I ordered a copy of the original script of The Room from Tommy Wiseau’s website, which was a thing I did not know existed until like… a week ago, and anyway, it came today.

image

I knew TW wouldn’t let this kind of thing get out the door without some kind of personal touch, but I had no idea just how far he’d go.

image

For those of you who might be having a tough time reading it, it says: “to: Kraig, May all your dreams come true, love: Tommy Wiseau.”

He even went so far as to date it, BUT WE’RE NOT DONE.

image

He also included a shirtless headshot as soon as you open the thing up.

image

And last but not least, a pair of underwear with his name emblazoned on the waistband.

I cannot even begin to process all of this but yeah if you ever want to get the original, even more absurd script of The Room now you know what you’re getting into.

Definitely a good thing to read over before we all start having heart attacks on Super Tuesday.

Super-Short Version: A lot of the states that are voting in the Primaries on Tuesday lean heavily towards Hillary, so there’s a good chance Bernie’s gonna look like he’s taking a huge hit this week. In the weeks afterwards, however, the states that have been leaning towards Bernie will have their Primaries, so he’ll make a comeback then… Assuming, of course, that we don’t all get discouraged from the Super Tuesday results and remember to vote. Apparently, the same thing happened back in ‘08, with Hillary gaining huge leads on Super Tuesday but Obama making a comeback afterwards to get the nomination.

In any case, keep yer hopes up, no matter what happens on Tuesday! Oh, and once again… Make sure you go out and vote!

Considering that i’m already seeing people give up on Bernie this really need to be seen.
